In July 2008, Parks-4-Pups entered into an Adopt-a-Park agreement with San Luis Obispo County Parks to build and maintain a fenced off-leash dog park in Templeton. The plan for Vineyard Dog Park received unanimous endorsements from TAAG (Templeton Area Advisory Group 5-0) and the SLO County Parks Commission (5-0) in June 2008. Vineyard Dog Park is located at the intersection of Semillon Lane and Vineyard Drive, about .5 mile west of Bethel Road in Templeton. Depending on fund-raising efforts, we hope to open the park in January 2009. The dog park will be about 3/4 acre in size and will be cross fenced to provide for separate “big dog” and “little dog” play areas. The park construction and maintenance will be paid for by donations from dog owners and local businesses. Parks-4-Pups was formed in 2004 and is a project committee of SLOPOST (San Luis Obispo Parks, Open Space, and Trails Foundation), a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. Parks-4-Pups was the founding organization for Heilmann Dog Park in Atascadero and is active in coordinating popular community events such as Dog Splash Days, Wiener Dog Races, Dogtoberfest, and Santa Paws. Parks-4-Pups has adopted parks and trails in Paso Robles and Templeton with volunteers providing litter pickup, trail maintenance, and dog walk bag dispensers.
